Kuala Lumpur, June 29, 2018

AirAsia has come on board as the Official Airline Partner for the WESG in ASEAN. The sponsorship deal with Agri Mind Sdn Bhd, which includes flights, media value and cash prize is in line with the airline’s commitment to support the region’s top talents and reaffirms its effort in digital initiatives including esports.

The WESG Asean online registration in each country will commence from 1 June to 31 July 2018. As an “Olympic-style” tournament, all competing teams must be comprised of players from one nationality. Unlike other esports tournaments, WESG focuses on “national pride” across multiple esports titles, including Dota 2, CS:GO, Hearthstone, StarCraft II, Vainglory, and Pro Evolution Soccer.

The WESG ASEAN tournament will feature 10 countries across the region, each of which will run their own online qualifier tournaments, followed by national LAN finals from August to September 2018. The regional Grand Finals will be held in November 2018, in Kuala Lumpur and the International Grand Finals will be held in March 2019. China, Japan, USA, Canada, Russia, South East Asia, and Oceania will be among some of the major offline regions that will run its own national finals in an on-ground venue.
